Fringe Exhibition
The Fringe Exhibition is a platform for students to demonstrate their musical abilities to their schoolmates. This year, the event has been scheduled for two periods. The Fringe Exhibition (1) was held from 26 and 27 April, targeting our F.4 students. It was the finale of the Other Learning Experience (OLE) Programme Part I ‘Ensemble’. All the students had been working hard since late November, in instrumental or vocal ensemble groups, and this exhibition was part of their yearly assessment. The assessment focused on their ability to perform a piece of music, how they interpreted the piece of music in their performance, and how they went about sharing the musical art form with an audience.
Auditions had been held, and, in the days counting down to the spectacle, voices and instruments could be heard everywhere as groups prepared for their performances.
Then, over three days, 16 ensemble groups performed in Delia’s Hall and the Covered Playground. The performers were nervous, but they needn’t have worried as the harmonies created were magnificent. The beautiful sounds echoed throughout the school, and as the musicians stepped off the stage with hesitant smiles, the audience gave them all lots of applause.
The Fringe Exhibition (1) has been a great achievement this year. Its success has been due to the hard work and determination of the students, ably supported by the teachers and the Ex-Co members of the Central Board. The second round, which will take place as a post-exam activity, will be open to all students and will feature the top ensemble groups from Form 4. This programme not only provides students with a musical outlet, but gives them an opportunity to experience a little of what it would be like to work as professional musicians, working hard in order to bring pleasure to others.
