A B O U T U S

The Central Board is run by students as a learning experience of self-goverment. Through organizing various internal and external activities, the Central Board allows students to develop and enhance their self-discipline, self-respect, positive interaction with peers, communication and responsibility towards self and society.

Under the guidance of the Principal and the Teacher Advisors, the Central Board is headed by the Executive Committee, under which sub-committees are formed as working groups. The Executive Committee is chaired by the Head Girl, and assisted by the Assistant Head Girl. Within the Central Board, there are presently the School Prefect Board and 8 sub-groups, each of which has a leader.

 I would like to express my greatest gratitude to all the Council members for having faith in me and giving me the chance to serve the school as Head Girl. I would also like to thank Lydia, Elaine and the outgoing Central Board exco members for all their achievements last year. My exco members and I will do our very best to continue your good work.

In the coming year, I will lead my teammates forward with the theme ‘We are the living hope’. We will organize activities to meet your needs and constantly be receptive to your opinions. By being a living hope, we will be able to show upcoming Good Hopers how changes, improvements, can be made.

President Obama said in his victory speech, ‘What we’ve achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.’ I think this is all about being a living hope. We are expected to do what we have promised to do and to remain hopeful and positive at all times. The outgoing exco members, my teammates, and I would like to ask all of you to join us in making the school a better place, not just for you and me, but for all the upcoming Good Hopers.

Although we are hopeful, we myself and the Central Board members, are not perfect; we know that we won’t be able to solve every problem. However, we will always listen to you, especially when we have different opinions and thoughts on issues, and we will always do our best to improve in different aspects. I believe that with constructive comments, and a steady exchange of ideas, we will all become better individuals and that the Central Board will steadily develop its effectiveness in serving you.

Good Hopers are optimistic and confident. Although the road ahead will be long, it is worth the struggle when one’s goal is to selflessly make life better for all. I know that I will be facing difficulties, and that at times my decisions may not be agreeable to everyone, but I will be humble, I will listen and learn, and I will make the best possible decisions for all of you. If I have a duty to listen, though, you also have a duty, and this duty is to speak out for yourself , for your classmates, and for your school so that we can work together as one body, as one team, and as one school, in order to make the lives of everyone that much happier and more fulfilling.

May I take this opportunity to thank the school once again for offering me the chance to serve as Head Girl.
