Literature in English
The school has a long tradition in introducing this subject into the school curriculum. We are one of the very few schools in Hong Kong which provide this subject for students.
The study of Literature in English is incorporated in the English Language programme in Forms 1-3. This becomes an independent subject from Form 4 ¡V Form 7.
Aims
The programme is designed to introduce students to world literature written in English. It is hoped that the students will experience the following in their study:
a. discover the joy of reading
b. develop a sensitivity to the English language
c. improve their writing and oral skills in the English language
d. become more aware of what is happening around them
e. appreciate the richness of ambiguity
f. be encouraged to formulate and voice their own thoughts
g. broaden their world view and life experience through the literary work they study
h. become more aware of the human conditions so as to become more sympathetic and empathetic to their fellow human beings
Objectives
Through the discipline, students will
a. become familiar with the background and content of literary texts as well as literary techniques employed by the writers
b. be able to articulate an informed personal response
c. be able to write clear, succinct essays which demonstrate critical and analytical skills
